2022 Photo Session Superlatives

2022 was an amazing year over at Kiersten Marie Photo! I got a chance to meet and capture so many new faces and document a ton of returning clients in new stages of their lives. Choosing superlatives was almost impossible given how many amazing sessions and moments happened throughout the year (I could easily include you all).

Below are the 2022 Photo Session Superlatives that just had to be shared.

Most Seasonal

There were some sessions this year where the nature in Seattle was just putting on a show. Like it absolutely demanded attention (and who am I to not offer that well deserved-attention?).

Check out these gorgeous colors!

Most Tender Parent-child Moments

This is one of the categories that I almost didn’t include because there were SO MANY of these incredibly sweet moments between parents and their little ones.

Here are just a few that majorly tugged at my heartstrings while shooting and editing them.

Most Memorable Child Portraits

One of my favorite aspects of a family session in 2022 was capturing solo child portraits. I love getting a chance to do this because it allows kiddos to have the full spotlight and express their unique personalities.

Documenting these personalities was seriously so special, I know I will continue to prioritizer these solo portraits.

Swoon-worthy Newborn Moments

As I’m sure is no surprise to anyone, there are a whole lot of soul-crushingly cute moments during Newborn Sessions. There can’t not be. There were a handful of moments like that this year that made me pause while I was editing and sigh. When I look at these, I can still feel how I felt watching these moments play out.

Dreamiest “Just the Parents” Shots

If parents are up for it, I absolutely adore getting to take them aside for a few “couple shots.” A really lovely thing often happens during these where their dynamic shifts and you suddenly get to see their relationship in a different way. It’s usually instantaneous and incredibly beautiful.

Chummiest Siblings

I promise I’m not kidding when I say that most siblings get along really well during sessions. It always surprises me. There were a few family sessions, though, where the siblings seemed like they were best buds. Where moments of love and friendship came totally organically. It was truly so nice to capture.

Wildest Weather

Did you know as outdoor photographers, we kind of have to be meteorologists too? In a place like Seattle, sometimes you just have to cross your fingers and hope for the best.

Now when I say wildest weather, I am not referring to the months of smoke Seattle experienced (huge shoutout to my clients who were super flexible at that time). I’m referring to sessions where the weather seemed okay before arriving and then decided to go a little nuts.

In the Maternity Session below, it was looking dicey until the the clouds opened and the end for a magical display of light. In the family session right below it, it was randomly freezing and incredibly windy. This actually mode for some gorgeous images full of movement so I can’t complain at all!

Most Photo-ready Pets

I have always and will always encourage having pets in sessions for at least part of your session. Pets are such an important part of the family, and it’s such a nice excuse to get a portrait of your furry little ones.

I can’t not share these absolute cuties.

Most Joyful Moments

One of my biggest goals during a session is to capture pure, genuine joy. The real smiles that don’t come about when you have a kiddo say “cheese”. When this happens, I honestly beam behind my camera. How cool is photography?

Sleepiest/Calmest Newborn Babes

Now listen—whether babies are crying their little lungs out or sleeping soundly, I absolutely love shooting these sessions. I feel unbelievably honored I get to document this super brief, special time no matter what mood a baby is in. These little ones, in particular, were not even kind of fazed by my presence and it was SO cute.

Kiddos Who Loved the Camera Most

There are some children who show up SO ready for photos. Like they’ve been preparing for this moment their entire little lives. It’s a blast shooting kiddos like this because they absolutely thrive in the spotlight. Below were a few who gave me about a thousand smiles collectively.

Thanks to each and every one of you who chose me to capture your memories in 2022—I’m so lucky to have clients like you.
